A Message From AmCham's CEO

Article by Niels Marquardt, May 2017

Welcome to the May edition of the AmCham CEO Message! It has been a particularly exciting month with the visit of US Vice President Mike Pence just a few weeks ago. Vice President Pence gave a fabulous shout-out to AmCham in his speech to the business community in Sydney, which you can read all about on our website . We also reached the 100 day mark of the Trump administration, marking it with a series of fascinating panel discussions around the country. Our Washington Doorknock delegation will get to meet key figures in the administration and in Congress up close and personal on June 19-23 as we champion business-friendly trade, tax and travel policies – there are still a few places available so I encourage you to join me there if you can!

We have a number of other trade missions coming up this year, starting with a Sustainability Mission around Sydney taking place on July 13, with visits to Lendlease, Coca-Cola South Pacific, EnergyLab and more! The first of three US trade missions this year will be an Infrastructure Mission with Austrade on October 9-13 - watch this space for further details in the coming days! AmCham’s Defence and Aerospace Mission will visit major government and industry players like Boeing, Northrop Grumman and Austal in Washington DC, Virginia, and Alabama on 15-20 October. And our annual Innovation Mission heads Boston and Silicon Valley on 29 October – 3 November, with visits planned to game-changing organisations like GE, Microsoft, Cisco, Twitter, Visa and more. Now is the time to contact us for a special Early Bird offer on these Missions!

In other news, I am pleased to be in Perth this week with a delegation led by acting U.S. Ambassador James Carouso, exploring new opportunities for success in Western Australia. It has also been great to catch up with a number of our fantastic WA members and our dedicated team there led by Penelope Williamson. I look forward to returning to Perth later this year for a flagship event with Reserve Bank Governor Philip Lowe on September 21  – and I hope many of you can join me there!

Finally, let me thank all those who came along to our AGM last Thursday 11 May. We are excited about the program and activities in store for the next twelve months, and our team is always happy to hear from you about what more we can offer our members.
