Mining for a Green Future - Supporting Clean Technologies and Sustainable Growth

About the Event

Clean technologies and infrastructure for a low carbon future carry intense mineral demands. Meeting net zero emissions by 2050 demands a transformation to energy sourced from sustainable technologies rather than the burning of fossil fuels – wind, solar, tidal, hydrogen. However, these green technologies carry intensive requirements for raw materials such as copper, cobalt, lithium. Building a cleaner world with economic prosperity is dependent on minerals mainly sourced by mining.

Our future is deeply dependant on mining resources, from everyday equipment - aluminium cans up to electronic chips of cell phones and computers. Given the current challenges in the context of climate change, the world is looking for a green energy solution highly reliant on mineral-based technologies.

Global demand for resources used in a range of emerging high-tech applications across a variety of sectors such as renewable energy, aerospace, defence, automotive (particularly electric vehicles), telecommunications and agri-tech are essential for the economic and industrial development of major and emerging economies. Hear from the experts how to balance this demand in a sustainable, equitable and resilient way.
