In October 2014, Marco Baccanti was appointed Chief Executive of Health Industries South Australia – a state government agency providing a single point of contact for health and life sciences companies investing in Adelaide.
Mr Baccanti’s previous appointments include managerial positions in government organisations (Executive Director of the Dubai Biomedical Research Park, a free zone of the UAE government), in research centres, hospitals and science parks (Managing Director of San Raffaele Biomedical Science Park in Milan and Centuria Science Park in Cesena, President of the International Association of Science Parks), and on the boards of the European Commission, World Economic Forum, Confindustria and biotech companies.
Dr Fiona Kerr, Neural and Systems Complexity Specialist, The University of Adelaide
Fiona Kerr is the neural and systems complexity specialist in the University of Adelaide, working half time across the faculties of the Professions and Health Sciences.
She also advises on such areas as fostering creativity and innovation, neuro-leadership and shaping adaptive capacity. She has spent time with some fascinating companies such as Cirque du Soleil looking at their ideation processes, and consults on leadership, and its cognitive effect on employees.
Dr Jane Bowen, Research Scientist/Dietitian, Nutrition & Health Program, CSIRO
The program aims to improve the health and wellness of Australians through nutrition innovation, in partnership with food and health industries.
Dr Bowen leads the CSIRO Wellbeing and Health Innovation Platform, which facilitates innovation and commercialization by making it easier for industry and start-ups to connect with our nutrition, food and health data, technology and expertise.

Jane’s research experience spans both large complex clinical trials, as well as community interventions. In addition she translates research outcomes into nutrition and health programs that are active in the Australian community, such as Healthy Kids Menu initiative (
http://healthykidsmenu.com.au/). She conducts her clinical work through the CSIRO Nutrition and Health Research Clinic (SAHMRI, Adelaide, South Australia) across a broad range of projects that focus on food, dietary patterns and programs for metabolic health and weight management.
Dr Bowen is an author of the CSIRO Wellbeing Plan for Kids, and contributing author of the CSIRO Healthy Heart Diet and the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet. Dr Bowen is an accomplished media spokesperson and presenter, and is frequently invited to present on her research findings, nutrition and health, innovation and women in STEM careers.
Gary Belfield, Executive Director, Advisory, KPMG Australia
Gary Belfied is an Executive Director in the Health, Ageing and Human Services sector with KPMG Australia. He has previously held senior roles within the NHS, including hospital CEO, and a Director-General in Department of Health (England). Gary held the role of Associate Partner/Head of Commissioning with KPMG’s UK firm. He worked extensively with clients in the NHS and Local Government space to develop integrated service offerings to benefit patients and citizens. Gary is known for his commitment to team development and supporting others to maximise their
potential. He was the Programme Director for the NHS Leadership Academy where he led the team that developed and delivered a programme to assist aspiring Directors. To date, 600 people have completed the programme.
