Adam Beck, Executive Director
SMART CITIES COUNCIL AUSTRALIA NEW ZEALAND

Adam is Founding Executive Director of Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand, an organisation dedicated to accelerating sustainability outcomes in cities and towns through the adoption of technology, data and intelligent design.

Adam is also an Ambassador with Portland-based thinktank EcoDistricts, where he was previously Director of Innovation. Prior to this Adam was Executive Director at the Green Building Council of Australia, and lecturer and studio lead in social impact assessment and community engagement at the University of Queensland. Before entering the mission-driven sector, Adam spent 15 years with global consulting firms, including almost a decade at Arup.


Dr Catherine Ball, CEO and Founder
REMOTE RESEARCH RANGES


Dr. Catherine Ball is a global, independent, innovation, and environmental science consultant, with particular interests in multi-modal data processing, ecological surveys, infrastructure, agriculture, and the coastal and marine interface. Dr. Ball was the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) technical lead for international company URS within Australia and New Zealand, and led the delivery of URS’s first Beyond Line of Sight RPAS project in Australia in 2013.

As a sought after voice in industry, Dr. Ball is working across a diverse portfolio of projects including unmanned systems (aerial, terrestrial, and aquatic) for environmental monitoring. In particular, her most recent works include the provision of technical support for innovation and new technology within existing monitoring frameworks for the oil and gas industry, marine and environmental monitoring, international development, capacity building, business plan advisory, and data management practice improvement.

Dr. Ball’s big passion is working on Projects that have a humanitarian aspect, from use of RPAS for emergency response, to recording cultural heritage, and agricultural assessments. Dr. Ball has travelled and worked extensively in sub-Saharan Africa and Australia on some cutting edge projects that combine science, entrepreneurship, empowerment, and ongoing education.


Brian Middleton, Vice President ANZ
BENTLEY SYSTEMS

Brian is a Vice President at Bentley Systems with responsibility for all Bentley’s Business sectors in New Zealand and Australia . Following a career in the Military, Brian spent the 10 years with the Royal Automobile Club as National Operations Manager where he was part of the team that developed the Worlds first GIS based Computer Aided Rescue System. The last 20 years have been spent advising both the public and private sector on using IT to improve operational performance and he has worked in diverse areas including establishing the UK’s first 100% internet Bank, implementing a network forensic analysis system for US Government Agencies, through to setting up a Predictive Injury Analysis Laboratory for AC Milan soccer club.

Brian moved to Australia in 2008 as Managing Director (Asia) of Exor Corporation and joined Bentley Systems through acquisition in 2010. With a focus on risk analysis, performance measurement and asset management, the last three years have been focused on evangelising Bentley’s Asset Lifecycle Information Management capabilities to help Transportation Infrastructure owners implement BIM beyond Level 1 and simplify the management of their complex infrastructure environments.


Janine Griffiths, Managing Director, Infrastructure Cities and Councils Lead
ACCENTURE

Janine Griffiths is a Senior Managing Managing Director in Accenture’s Government and Health Practice and leads Accenture's Infrastructure, Cities and Councils business in Australia and New Zealand.

With more than 24 years experience, Janine’s industry experience spans Financial Services, Mining, Oil and Gas, Local, State and Federal Government, Education, Telecommunications and Products industries. In particular, Janine has been involved in a number of Accenture’s largest and most complex Government and Resources Industry projects where she has worked with clients to lead their change journey from visioning and strategy to program planning and execution. Over the last 6 years has worked extensively with a number of local Councils on their business transformation, analytics and smart city programs.

Janine has worked with Accenture clients in 9 countries in Australia, Asia and Europe. During this time she led major business transformation programs and gained deep knowledge of planning, design, development and implementation of change related to business strategies and the introduction of new organisational, business process and technology solutions.
