Pip Marlow, CEO Strategic Innovation, Suncorp

Pip Marlow was appointed Chief Executive Officer Strategic Innovation in December 2016. She is responsible for Suncorp’s strategic role in market disruption, and identifying, establishing and cultivating new external marketplace partners to meet the needs of customers.

Pip is a highly-recognised leader in her field. She brings a wealth of international experience and has a strong track record of delivery, most recently through her 6 year tenure as Managing Director of Microsoft Australia.

Pip has more than 21 years’ experience in the IT industry. One of her first roles was at Samsung Information Systems, where she was responsible for building the company’s Semi-Conductor distribution business. Before joining Microsoft in 1995, she was part of the founding team at Agate Technology, which became one of Australia’s largest storage distributors.

Pip is a non-executive Director of the Australian Rugby Union (ARU), sits on the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Board at UTS and is a member of Chief Executive Women (CEW), an organisation committed to supporting and growing women in executive positions.

Pip is a member of the Business Council of Australia’s Innovation Task Force advocating for an integrated approach to creating an effective Australian innovation system and promoting the productivity and competitiveness of Australian industry.

Pip enjoys working in a vibrant, collaborative environment, and is an advocate for flexible workplaces that empower people through trust and accountability.

Born, raised and educated in Palmerston North, New Zealand, Pip lives in Sydney with her Scottish husband and two daughters, Sophie and Lucy.

Michael J Edwards, General Manager, Boeing Research & Technology

Michael Edwards joined The Boeing Company in August 2011 as General Manager of Boeing Research & Technology – Australia (BR&T-A). He carries executive responsibility for the delivery of the company’s research portfolio in the region. Edwards oversees a highly collaborative research program focussed on creating the future for the Boeing Australia business units. In his capacity as General Manager of BR&T – Australia, Edwards is a member of the BR&T Global Technology Leadership Team and the Boeing Australia Enterprise Leadership Team.

Prior to joining Boeing, Edwards worked with the Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) for 11 years. At CSIRO, he held the position of General Manager, CSIRO Performance & Evaluation including Flagship Operations from 2008, as well as fulfilling an overseas posting as Senior Technical Advisor to Boeing based in Seattle, USA from 2005 – 2008. Edwards also held the role of Business Development Manager for CSIRO Atmospheric Research based in Melbourne, Australia (now CSIRO Marine & Atmospheric Research) from 2000-2005.

Prior to his experience with CSIRO, Edwards worked for approximately 15 years in the plastics, chemicals and petrochemicals industries in Australia, including 12 years with Orica Australia Ltd.

Edwards has a Bachelor of Science with a major in Chemistry from Monash University as well as a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration (Executive) from Monash Business School.

He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology & Engineering (ATSE), including support for the ATSE Industry & Innovation Forum and ATSE Gender Equity Working Group. Edwards is also the current chairman of the RMIT University Sir Lawrence Wackett Aerospace Research Centre Industry Advisory Board; executive focal for the Boeing / University of Queensland Steering Committee; and a member of the Swinburne University School of Business & Law Industry Advisory Board. Edwards was a member of teams awarded Boeing’s Supplier of the Year in 2011 and a CSIRO Medal for Research Excellence in 2011.

Tertius Bezuidenhout, Director ERP Applications, Oracle

Tertius Bezuidenhout is a 27 year information technology industry veteran, with experience that spans the Middle East, Africa & Asia Pacific.

His focus has always been in assisting organization to leverage information technology to improve business processes and deliver tangible business results. 

His career started in 1990 in a large transport business where he had multiple roles in the datacentre, systems programming and data management environment.

In the late 90’s he moved from a customer to IT vendor environment where he has remained since delivering success in multiple technical, management, sales management & general management roles across Africa, Australia and the Asia regions.

Tertius current role is a leader and Director in the Oracle ERP, EPM & SCM SaaS business applications for Australia

Associate Professor Tim Kastelle, MBA Program Director, UQ Business School

Tim’s research, teaching and engagement work are all based on his study of innovation management. He graduated from Princeton University with a degree in economics, and his MBA and PhD were completed at UQ. He has worked in marketing and management positions in a variety of industries including radio, office equipment, industrial chemicals, higher education and software, and these experiences inform both his research and his teaching. Tim has published widely in the leading innovation journals. He is deeply committed to translating research into practice. To this end, he writes a well-regarded innovation blog for managers, and he has worked extensively with a wide range of organisations. Tim has worked closely with the CSIRO to build the national research commercialisation program ON Prime (http://oninnovation.com.au/Programs/ON-Prime). He is currently the MBA Director for the UQ Business School, and runs the School’s collaborations with the Wharton and Fudan Business Schools.
