Matt Halliday, Managing Director and CEO, Ampol Australia
Matthew Halliday was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer in June 2020. He joined Ampol in April 2019 as Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to joining Ampol, Matthew enjoyed a successful career with Rio Tinto spanning 20 years, where he held senior finance and commercial roles across several divisions and geographies.
Matthew is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia and an MBA from London Business School.
Dr Larry Marshall, Chief Executive, CSIRO
Dr Larry Marshall is Chief Executive of CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency and innovation catalyst. CSIRO solves the greatest challenges through innovative science and technology. Its collaborative research turns science into solutions to address Australia’s greatest challenges, including food security and quality; clean energy and resources; health and wellbeing; resilient and valuable environments; innovative industries; and a secure Australia and region.
CSIRO has played a pivotal role in Australia’s response to recent challenges including prolonged drought, catastrophic bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic. The organisation’s 70+ years of experience in bushfires has informed the Government’s response to extreme fire events; it has accelerated Australia’s response to COVID-19 with vaccine development and research intro virus strains and detection; and it has helped to manage the public health response with data analytics and the establishment of sovereign supply of face masks.
Larry was appointed Chief Executive of CSIRO in 2015 for a five-year period and was re-appointed in 2020 for another three years. Under his leadership, CSIRO has delivered the highest industry revenue ever, a 70 per cent increase in CSIRO’s customer base, the largest increase in diversity, a more than ten-fold increase in CSIRO's equity portfolio, and the largest increase in appropriation.
Over those first five years CSIRO evolved to be one of the top three iconic Australian brands measured, with high collaboration rates with universities and industry. Over the next three years, Larry’s intention is to use science and technology to help drive Australia’s economic recovery and resilience to future challenges.
Larry is a scientist, technology innovator and business leader with a wealth of experience in creating new value and impact with science. He has a PhD in Physics and became a global leader in laser research, for which he was honoured as a Federation Fellow and later as an ATSE (Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering) Fellow.
He has been CEO/MD and founder of six companies in biotechnology, telecommunications, semiconductors, and venture capital. He has 100 publications and conference papers, holds 20 patents, and has served on 20 boards of high-tech companies operating in the US, Australia and China. Larry is a Male Champion of Change committed to tackling gender equality. He is a passionate supporter of Australian innovation, and the power of science and technology to drive the future prosperity and sustainability of Australia.
Ainsley Simpson, CEO, Infrastructure Sustainability Council Australia
Ainsley joined the ISC in May 2016. Ainsley works across the infrastructure industry to advance sustainable outcomes through the deployment and development of the IS rating scheme. Ainsley is committed to making a real impact in organisations that anchor in their core values, develop their people and support the advancement of women with leadership aspirations.
Professor Duncan Ivison, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research), University of Sydney
Professor Ivison is Professor of Political Philosophy and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) at the University of Sydney. He was previously Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (2010-15). He completed his BA at McGill University in Montreal, where he grew up, and his MSc and PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is currently Chair of the Go8 DVCR committee and a board member of the United States Studies Centre, the NSW Institute of Public Policy, a member of the Australian Research Council Advisory Council, the Gradient Institute Advisory Council and Council member of the Australian Academy of Humanities.
