Meet the Minister with the Hon. Matthew Kean MP

NSW Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation 

With less than a year to the next NSW election, hear the Hon. Mathew Kean MP, Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation address the priorities of the Berejiklian Government and the policy development within his portfolio.

Matthew Kean was elevated to the NSW Cabinet as the Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation on January 30, 2017. As minister, he is responsible for a diverse range of issues with a portfolio that includes consumer protection, workplace safety, and innovation.

Within this role, Matt is a keen promoter of innovative technology and its power to improve the economy. He is committed to highlighting the ways innovative technology and thinking can improve quality of life, as well as the NSW economy.

In 2011, Matt became the youngest member of the NSW Legislative Assembly when he was elected Member for Hornsby. Within a year, he was elected to chair the NSW Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on the Office of the Valuer General. 

Matt counts mental health issues as a key concern. He dedicated his inaugural speech in parliament back in 2011 to a young friend who had recently taken his own life and called for greater funding for suicide prevention campaigns. Matt is working on a program to improve mental health in the work places of NSW.

Prior to entering Parliament, Matt was a manager at Pricewaterhouse Coopers. He is also an avid cricketer, and long-time member of the Berowra Cricket Club.
