INTRODUCING AMCHAM'S NEW CEO

April W. Palmerlee is the incoming Chief Executive Officer of the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia (effective October 3, 2017).

Immediately before that she was a senior executive at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney. Previously, she was a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Independent Studies, Assistant Editor of Policy magazine, and a consultant. From 2003-2012, she was Director of Potomac Partners Pty. Ltd, a consulting firm specialising in international affairs and U.S. foreign policy.

Born in Washington, D.C., April held many positions in the USA before moving to Australia. She was Senior Coordinator of International Women's Issues (now called Ambassador-at-Large, equivalent to Assistant Secretary of State). She and her team coordinated, funded and implemented US policy to promote women's political and economic participation worldwide. The creation of this position in the US was a model for the creation of the equivalent position in Australia: Ambassador for Women and Girls. 

Before that, she was an executive at the Council on Foreign Relations, America's most influential non-partisan foreign policy think tank. She has also worked for couturier Oscar de la Renta, Montréal-based financial publisher The Bank Credit Analyst, and non-governmental organisation The Spanish Institute.
