Mobilising Moorebank: Moving Sydney Forward

Featuring The Hon. Melinda Pavey MP, Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight; and Maurice James, Managing Director, Qube Holdings

The Moorebank Intermodal Terminal Precinct is a vital piece of infrastructure for NSW that will transform the way containerised freight moves through Port Botany and deliver a faster, simpler, and more cost-effective service. The Terminal will enable more freight to travel by rail, via the Southern Freight Line direct to the precinct. This removes thousands of trucks off the roads per day and allows Port Botany to continue to grow.

Addressing AmCham to discuss the plans and developments for the precinct are The Hon. Melinda Pavey MP, Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight; and Maurice James, Managing Director, Qube Holdings. They will be addressing the current state of the roads and freight network, the need for a solution to the increasing problem of congestion on Sydney’s roads, and how Sydney and NSW will benefit from being part of a national intermodal network.

The facility is expected to generate around 7000 jobs and $9 billion in economic benefits, as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 40,000 tonnes a year and easing traffic pressures on Sydney’s road network. This precinct is an integral component of the Freight, Ports and Transport strategies of both the NSW and Commonwealth governments to help manage the challenges of an expected tripling of freight volumes at Port Botany by 2031.

The terminal will be developed by Sydney Intermodal Terminal Alliance (SIMTA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Qube Holdings, one of Australia’s largest and most experienced operators in the freight and logistics industry.
