ABOUT THE EVENT
“The choices we make today will define our individual and collective prosperity into the future.” The South Australian Economic Statement proposes a smart, sustainable, inclusive economy that will forge a pathway into the future while respecting the past. This luncheon event will ask questions of the South Australian Treasurer, Stephen Mullighan and look at where we are, 12 months on from the formation of the statement.

Hon Stephen Mullighan MP - Treasurer, South Australian Parliament
The Treasurer is the Hon. Stephen Mullighan MP. Stephen was appointed Treasurer in the Labor Government in March 2022. Stephen was first elected as the Member for Lee in the South Australian Parliament in 2014. In 2014, he was appointed the Minister for Transport & Infrastructure, and in 2016 added the portfolios of Housing and Urban Development. Prior to entering the Parliament, Stephen led Deloitte’s economics team in Adelaide between 2010-2013 providing economic advice to corporate clients, the non-profit sector and state and federal governments. Stephen is a proud western suburb resident, is married to Antonia and they have three children Benjamin, Isaac and Olivia. Along with his responsibility as Treasurer, his portfolio responsibilities include Finance.
Dr Tania Dey - Manager, BDO EconSearch
Dr Tania Dey is a Manager at BDO EconSearch. She is an Applied Economist experienced in conducting qualitative and quantitative research and analysis using her extensive formal training and knowledge of economics, relevant legislation and regulatory arrangements in various jurisdictions in Australia and overseas. She is currently doing economic analysis in areas such as health care, infrastructure, travel and tourism, migration etc. Prior to joining EconSearch, Tania has worked as an Economist at the University of Adelaide and as a Regulatory Analyst at the Essential Services Commission of South Australia. Tania is experienced in macroeconomic issues, energy economics, labour market issues, economic evaluation using impact assessment and cost-benefit analysis, public policy and regional development. Tania volunteers her time as a Co-Chair of the Women in Economics Network (South Australia) and as a producer on Radio Adelaide, promoting community engagement.
Catherine Birch - Senior Economist, ANZ
Catherine is a Senior Economist in the Australian economics team at ANZ Research. She provides research, analysis and forecasts on inflation, wages, infrastructure, ESG, and the broader Australian and global economies. Prior to joining ANZ in 2019, Catherine was a Senior Policy Adviser/Economist for the Victorian Government, an Environmental Economist for the Namibia Nature Foundation, and an Economic Analyst for BIS Oxford Economics. Catherine holds a Master of International and Development Economics from the Australian National University.
Simon Campbell - Partner, KPMG
Simon Campbell is a Partner at KPMG, leading its South Australian Corporate Finance practice, and is the South Australian Geographic Lead for KPMG's Enterprise division. He has over 14 years of experience in advising major private, publicly listed and government clients both nationally and internationally. He provides a range of corporate finance services including lead advisory on divestments, mergers, and acquisitions, along with undertaking complex valuation, modelling and corporate advisory engagements. Simon volunteers as the Vice-President and Treasurer of the YMCA South Australia and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
Dr Susan Stone - Credit Union SA Chair of Economics, University of South Australia
Susan Stone is the Credit Union SA Chair of Economics at UniSA, undertaking research on issues pivotal to the State of South Australia. Prior to joining UniSA Dr. Stone was a division head at the OECD, a Director for the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), a Senior Research Fellow at the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo, a Research Manager at the Australian Productivity Commission in Melbourne and a Senior Analyst at the US Environmental Protection Agency in Washington DC. Her work has been published as national and multinational government reports, edited volumes, and in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Stone holds a PhD in Economics and a Master’s Degree in Business and Finance, from Drexel University in the United States.
