Kmart has achieved a lot over the last 10 years: customer satisfaction, sales, profits and returns have all improved. This has placed Kmart in a strong position in the market and they have become a highly respected retailer. However, competition is at an all-time high and Kmart's future success requires continued expansion of market share. In this presentation, Ian Bailey will discuss the market as he sees it, the challenges and the opportunities that presents, and the approach Kmart are taking to succeed in the next phase of growth.

In February 2016, Wesfarmers established a new division for its department stores, Kmart and Target. The restructure enables Kmart and Target to maximise and share opportunities where appropriate while maintaining and growing these iconic Australian brands.

Kmart is one of Australia’s largest retailers, with more than 200 stores throughout Australia and New Zealand. Kmart employs approximately 30,000 team members including product sourcing offices in Hong Kong, China, Bangladesh and India. Kmart offers a wide range of general merchandise and apparel products at low prices every day. Kmart also offers an extensive range of home brand products which offer exceptional value to customers.

Ian commenced with Kmart Australia in 2006 as the Chief Financial Officer and has played a significant role in leading the turnaround of the business including the reposition of the Kmart Australia business model, establishing an outstanding and ethical international sourcing division, and working closely with merchandise.

Ian’s experience, both national and international, covers a number of industries including retail, professional services, consulting, technology and healthcare in positions that include general management, sales, business development and project management.

Ian holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
