Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors is key to the dynamic culture that drives AmCham, and they reflect the forward-thinking ethos that drives us and our members onward. They are responsible for the policy, direction and governance of the organisational activities in all states.
Ms Maureen Dougherty , President, Boeing Australia, NZ & South Pacific , Boeing Australia Holdings Pty Ltd
Maureen Dougherty was named President of Boeing Australia and South Pacific in March 2014. As the senior Boeing executive in the region, she is responsible for coordinating all Boeing activities and leads the Company’s government affairs efforts. Previously, Dougherty served as Vice President within Boeing Defence, Space & Security’s Boeing Military Aircraft unit.

Throughout her 30-year career, Dougherty has held a variety of engineering and program leadership positions on missile, fighter, bomber and military commercial derivative aircraft programs. She has a broad technical background in structures, avionics, systems and test engineering and has managed programs through development, production and sustainment.

Dougherty is a member of the Business Council of Australia, sits on the President’s Council of the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Chairman’s Panel for The Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
Ms Deborah Chew , Partner - Corporate and Commercial , Hall & Wilcox Lawyers
Deborah has over 25 years of corporate and commercial experience across a broad range of commercial transactions, and has advised on substantial mergers and acquisitions and private equity and capital raising transactions. Deborah’s practice includes company and business acquisitions and sales, public and private issuances of equity and debt securities, shareholders agreements and joint ventures, management equity arrangements, commercial structuring and corporate organisational restructuring and corporate governance and ASX Listing Rule advice.

Deborah has led and worked on a large number of major transactions, both at Hall & Wilcox and previous top tier firms (in Australia and the United States). Before joining Hall & Wilcox, Deborah was a partner at Allens Arthur Robinson and prior to that worked for almost ten years at a leading New York firm, Debevoise & Plimpton.
Mr Tony Clemens , Director and Special Counsel , PwC
Tony is a partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers Mergers & Acquisitions/International Tax Services Group in Sydney and has been with PwC since 1978. He was admitted as a partner of the Taxation Division in 1986. Since 1988 he has been a Lead Partner of Australian Tax, Mergers & Acquisitions and International Group. He is currently a member of the firm’s Board of Partners.

Tony advises many Australian multinationals on their international business transactions. He is regularly included as an adviser on the largest transactions in Australia each year. Tony has been nominated by the International Tax Review as one of Australia’s leading tax advisers for many years.

He holds a Bachelor of Economics, Sydney University and was awarded the T.J. McGoffin Prize for Taxation Law. Tony is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia and a Member of the International Fiscal Association.
Mr Geoff Culbert , President and Chief Executive Officer , General Electric Australia & New Zealand
Geoff is President & CEO, GE Australia and New Zealand, where he is responsible for GE’s suite of businesses in the region including Oil & Gas, Power & Water, Aviation, Healthcare, Transportation, Capital and Lighting. Geoff joined GE in 2002 as the General Counsel for GE Capital, A&NZ. In 2007 Geoff moved to Japan to take on the role as General Counsel for GE Capital Asia, leading a team of 60 lawyers across Japan, Korea, Greater China, India, SEA, A&NZ. In 2011 he relocated to Hong Kong to take on the role of General Counsel for GE’s Global Growth Organisation, where he led a team of over 150 legal and compliance professionals across Asia, Africa, Eastern and Western Europe, Middle East, Latin America, Canada and Russia/CIS.

Geoff graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1992 with a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Law (Hons). Before joining GE he worked in private practice for 10 years in Australia, Europe and Asia, specialising in international banking and finance.
Ms Wendy King , President - Australia East , ConocoPhillips Australia Pty Ltd
Wendy King is President - Australia East, ConocoPhillips Australia Pty Ltd.

Wendy began her career as a petroleum engineer with Conoco Inc. and has held various technical and leadership positions in the Exploration and Production business in the United States, United Kingdom and Africa.

Prior to starting with Australia Pacific LNG in July 2011, Wendy fulfilled a variety of leadership roles for ConocoPhillips in Alaska serving as the Vice President, External Affairs and as Manager, Alaska North Slope gas development. In 2011, Wendy was seconded to Australia Pacific LNG as Vice President, Commercial. Wendy assumed her current role in 2017.

Wendy has previously served on the University of Alaska Board of Trustees, the Resource Development Council of Alaska Board of Directors and the Board of United Way of Anchorage.
Mr Niels Marquardt , CEO , American Chamber of Commerce in Australia
Niels Marquardt started as CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia (AmCham) on October 15, 2013. He is a former American diplomat with decades of experience promoting international trade and investment.

His final diplomatic assignment was as U.S. Consul General in Sydney, 2010-2013. During a 34-year State Department career, Niels also served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Madagascar and the Union of the Comoros (2007 - 2010), to the Republic of Cameroon (2004 – 2007), and to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea (2004 – 2006). In three of those countries, Niels helped found and launch new AmCham chapters.
Mr Richard Owen , Chairman , ExxonMobil Australia Pty Ltd
Richard J. Owen is the Chairman and Managing Director of the ExxonMobil group of companies in Australia.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) from The University of Sydney. He joined Esso Australia as an engineer at the Longford Plant in Sale in 1983. Throughout his career with ExxonMobil he has held various technical and operating management positions in Australia, USA, Germany and Indonesia. He was appointed to his current position in June 2013.

Richard is currently a Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia, a board member of the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA) and a member of the Business Council or Australia. Richard is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia and is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Richard is married to Jennifer and has two adult sons.
Mr Robbert Rietbroek , CEO , PepsiCo Australia & New Zealand
Robbert Rietbroek is Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo Australia & New Zealand. Robbert has overall responsibility for PepsiCo’s snacks, beverage, and oats business and its portfolio of successful brands including Red Rock Deli, Pepsi Max and Gatorade. Robbert was previously Managing Director and Chief Executive of Kimberly-Clark Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, and prior to that Global Vice President for Baby and Child Care at K-C. Before that, Robbert spent 16 years at Procter & Gamble in brand building and general management roles of increasing complexity and scope. Robbert has extensive professional experience in both developed and developing markets, having run businesses in North America, South America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific. Robbert is also a Director on the Board of Australia’s leading FMCG industry association, the Australian Food & Grocery Council (AFGC) and is Chairman of the AFGC Health, Nutrition and Scientific Affairs Committee.
Mr Bill Townsend , General Manager External Affairs and Joint Venture , INPEX Operations Australia Pty Ltd
Bill Townsend is General Manager, External Affairs and Joint Venture at INPEX. In this role, Bill leads a 30-person team responsible for managing the company’s government and community relations, corporate social responsibility, Aboriginal affairs, regulatory approvals, communications, media relations and joint venture management. Bill joined INPEX in 2006 and is a member of the Ichthys LNG Project Executive Committee.

Beginning his career as a US Navy submarine officer, Bill entered the oil and gas industry in 1994 as a Business Advisor to BP Russia based in Moscow. Further commercial and external affairs assignments with BP followed and include the Shah Deniz gas project in Azerbaijan and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline project in Georgia as well as additional roles with BP in the Caspian region.

Bill earned a BA (Political Science) from Northwestern University and an MBA from Dartmouth College. He resides in Perth, Western Australia.
Mr Jim Whalley , Chairman & Director , Nova Systems
Jim Whalley is the CEO and co-founder of the Nova Group (www.novagroup.com.au ), an engineering and project management professional services firm spanning defence, transport, utilities, energy and communications. Jim is a former RAAF fighter pilot and test pilot and among other qualifications holds a BSc, an MBA and is a Graduate of the Harvard Business School OPM Executive Education Program and the UK Empire Test Pilots’ School. Jim currently serves on several defence, industry and university boards and advisory committees. The Nova Group itself employs over 300 people throughout Australia and in the UK, NZ and Singapore with skills in areas ranging from flight testing and electronic warfare to system safety and satellite communications. Nova has been listed as an SA Top 100 company, a BRW fast 100 company, an SA Fast Movers Company and one of the BRW 50 best places to work in Australia.
