Please find attached a visa alert in relation to clarification on recent changes to Subclass 457 and other Specialist Visa Categories. Effective March 2010, Subclass 457 and other specialist visa applicants are subject to a relaxed health insurance evidence requirement, but their employers must meet other tightened requirements, the Australian government has clarified. The government has also clarified its rules on when certain Subclass 457 workers can change occupations or employers, and has introduced new language proficiency and support requirements for certain training visa applications.

Clients should particularly note the changes which have been introduced with respect to evidencing adequate health insurance arrangements for 457 visa applications.

Changes Coming to Airport Security Screening Procedures

This month, foreign nationals traveling to the United States will begin to see changes in airport security screening procedures, as the U.S. Transportation Safety Administration implements new screening policies that will focus less on a traveler’s country of citizenship and more on intelligence data that flags security risks.
